From September the 15th to September the 21st, COMMON celebrated its inaugural Multi-faith Week. We went to visit various places of worship around Melbourne during the seven days, ending with a peace walk and multi-faith tree-planting ceremony to commemorate the International Day of Peace.
It was such a fantastic time for everyone who came, as the hosts were extremely hospitable and we learnt so much. At the Jewish Synagogue, we were given the opportunity to view the scroll of the Torah up close, at the Buddhist Temple we were given a special question-and-answer session and at the Catholic Mass, the sermon was directed especially towards the multi-faith week. We also visited a Muslim Mosque, Sikh Gurdwara, Brahma Kumaris Centre, Uniting Church, Anglican Church, Indigenous Centre and Greek Orthodox Church. It was a truly honouring and unique experience to be part of!
This year we had just a few people at each event, but next year we hope to extend this opportunity to many more people. This is a time for those who might be wanting to visit another place of worship, but have never had an invitation.
